Mein neues Projekt, Sachsenwerk Olympia 59-3W
#21
Danke,
Steve

I was going to cast a new button. The supplies would cost about $50. So, shipping a button would be a good option. You guys are great. Thank you for looking for parts. Just let me know the cost, and I can send the money with PayPal.
Thank you,
Steve

I'm checking Ebay for EL84 output transformers. I may be able to find something locally. What is listed for shipping from Germany is expensive. About $40 for a pair of Telefunken transformers. Those prices may be inflated. The transformer is small. Shipping a radio costs about $90. If could ship the transformer and button for $25, that would be reasonable. I have a lot of time for this project to look for parts. With Christmas coming up, I may have to delay this project until January. The radio only cost $10 + $40 shipping.

Steve
I checked the primary winding again, it is open. I may open it up to see if it can be repaired. May be the break is close to the end of the wire.

Steve,
it is a dead loss. Don't hope for breaking wire at the beginning or the end of coil! In this moment I fix such a transformer for a member in this forum. Please look for: Reparatur Sachsenwerk Olympia 59-3W author "Bobbin". You can see the windung dates for the coils.

Ja, so denke ich mir das auch.
Setz Deinen normalen Stundensatz dafür an!

Steve

I will just try and find a replacement. 4000 turns is a lot of wire.

I looked at your diagram of the transformer. It looks like winding 5 is open.

Ich schaute auf das Diagramm des Transformators. Es sieht aus wie Wicklung 5 ist offen.

Hallo

Steve,
if only the winding 5 is broken, it's easy to replace it. This windung is the last on the top of coil body and has only 120 turns. Use enamelled wire AWG 36 gauge (diameter 0.005 inches).
Push the E- coil sheets down and remove them. Then you can remove the coil body too. Between the E- and I- sheets is located a spacer made of paper. Don't forget it when you remount the transformer. Take some fotos to remind.
Be careful when you rewind the coil. The #36 wire is very thin and sensitive.

At this time I am just evaluating the problems, and determining the cost of parts.

The order that I will repair problems will be:
1. Dial cord
2. Capacitors
3. output transformer
4. push button

I have some new capacitors, and need to order more. I have a bid on dial cord on Ebay. I will take some time getting this done. I need to find a dial cord diagram.

The Saba took me about a month to do. I replaced about 30 capacitors, replaced the selinium rectifier with silicon, tightened loose connections in the tuning linkage, polished a bad pully for the dial cord, cleaned and waxed the case.

Thank you, I will give it a try. I will order some 36 gauge magnet wire.

It is possible to send some stuff in a little box up to 1 KG weight for €7.00 from Germany to the USA! It would be without insurance, but in the past i had sent some boxes to the USA without insurance and all did arrive well.

Thank you for the diagram Anton. Thank you for the shipping research. That looks very reasonable. Much better than what Ebay sellers quote. Looks like there should be no problem with shipping some small parts. I am working the next few days, so It may take me some time to reply. I just bought some dial cord from someone in Italy, and the shipping is only €2.70.

Hallo Steve,

Da kommt normalerweise etwas "komisches" heraus, trotzdem versteht man dann grundlegend, was gemeint ist.

Steve, Andreas tells you not to buy any transformer (or other small parts), seems he got one for you. You will have to pay for shipping only.
Gruß,
Uli
